Matrice Font Family

Matrice is named after the typefounder's matrix, the brass mould struck by a punch and used to cast one letter at a time. The family is planned in that spirit: eight weights from Extra Light to Black, each with a drawn italic at a 6-degree slant, all on one wide geometric skeleton. The lightest cuts are monolinear, and stroke contrast grows with the weight, so Black holds a spine and a taper that Extra Light does not. Square-sided bowls, flat joints, and open apertures place this geometric sans serif font family in the systematic Swiss line.

The OpenType layer is stocked for real typesetting: alternates, oldstyle and scientific figures, ordinals, fractions, circled digits in two versions, case-sensitive forms, arrows, extended currency, and math and Greek characters. Cahya Sofyan drew the weights as one system, which is what an identity needs when the same typeface runs across signage, editorial pages, and a website.
