Glitch borrows the failure modes of digital systems and treats them as a visual language. It is all about RGB channels sliding apart into chromatic fringing, horizontal dropout from a struggling VHS signal, the blocky mosaic of a JPEG pushed past its compression limit, and pixel-sorting streaks that smear values along a row.
What makes glitch effects read as wrong in the right way is fidelity to the actual artifact — the specific way each system breaks. Our effects keep this behavior on a controllable stack, so a single channel shift at low opacity is as reachable as full data-corruption chaos.

When clean digital work demands friction
Glitch effects are useful when a composition seems too smooth, stable, or predictable. They introduce digital friction: shifted pixels, broken channels, compression marks, scan noise, frame tearing, and signal interruptions that make the image feel processed, transmitted, interrupted, or pushed past its limit. The point is not to make the file look damaged for decoration, but to give the design an unstable, electric quality.
For designers, glitch is a way to add rhythm and pressure to static work. It can make typography feel like it is moving, give portraits a sharper psychological edge, turn product or tech visuals into something more active, or make campaign artwork closer to screens, feeds, streams, games, and live media. Used well, the distortion creates pure energy: the image breaks while the subject and message remain readable.
Where glitch effects have genuine design traction
Glitch treats the failure modes of electronic systems as a language. It goes back to analog video art: Nam June Paik's 1965 Magnet TV distorted a broadcast signal with a magnet, turning interference into an image. The digital era added its own failures, from channel shifts and compression breakdown to datamoshing and pixel sorting, and net-art collectives like JODI built work from deliberately broken code in the 1990s.
