The effect presses artwork into a coarse-grain paper stock as a blind emboss. Every ridge and recess catches light from a single low raking source, so the relief reads entirely through shadow and highlight with no separate ink or color. The paper ground carries its own grit and tonal variation, and the overall look has the weight of a hand-tooled bookcover. The ground color is fully adjustable.
